Marine Applications

LM2500
Marine gas turbines are running worldwide utilizing the latest, state-of-the art technology. Industry leaders are providing engines for high-speed marine craft. Various industry leaders have built thousands of these engines, when their reliability has proven in over 800,000.000 operating hours in 80 countries.

These gas turbine engines have been used for many successful Marine and Industrial installations, including main propulsion on US Navy, and have accumulated significant experience. Their reliability been proven in diversified applications onshore and offshore from the equator to the polar region. The applications include demanding service in the oil and gas industry, Industrial power generation/co-generation, Marine propulsion and Marine power generation.

They are ideally suited for Marine applications due to its compactness, lightweight, durability, reliability, easy maintenance, virtually vibration-free operation, easy attenuated sound, and fuel flexibility.

LM1500 Turbine Engine

The LM2500 series engine was selected in the early 1970’s as the prime mover for watercraft propulsion. Today, these industrial Aero Derivative engines are in use worldwide for power generation and co-generation as well as for mechanic drive applications on off shore platforms and pipelines. Utilizing the latest technology, the LM2500 has set the standard for the industry. Through continual incorporation of technological advances, the LM2500 sets the bench mark for efficiency, reliability and availability by which other gas turbines are measured in the market place. With more than one million hours of operating experience, these gas turbines are recognized as the industry leader. In desert, arctic, and marine applications, the LM2500 gas turbine has demonstrated the flexibility to operate on a range of fuel and fuel/water combination. The engine is also ideally suited for co-generation and combined-cycle applications. Overall system efficiency can be increased by using the exhaust gas heat to generate steam, which then may be used for other process requirements.

The LM2500 has an outstanding 99.6% availability rate. Out of every 10,000 hours of operation, engines have required an average of only 40 hours of service. LM2500 is the most experienced high efficiency gas turbine in its class. Currently, there are over 2100 turbine engines in use in over 50 countries worldwide. These engines are used for power generation, water propulsion, pipeline compression, offshore platform, gas re-injection, gas transmission, barge mounted power plants, paper mills, wood processing plants and oil refineries. LM2500 engines and turbines play a significant role in the development of land-based and marine industries. The LM2500 is the single most important equipment needed in the development process.

Motorsports Industry

Five-time World Land Speed record holder Craig Breedlove’s third generation Spirit of America was powered by J-79 (General Electric) jet engines supplied by International Engine Parts Inc.

The J79 engines, from Navy F-4 Phantom fighter aircraft were modified to run on cleaner burning unleaded gasoline (Formula Shell), the same used in passenger cars. Engine tests revealed that the power plants were producing 22,650 pounds of thrust...equivalent to 45,000 horsepower..
